USB Lamp circuit.

Here is a simple USB powered lamp that can be used to light your desktop during power failures. The circuit operates from the 5 V available from the USB port. The 5V from the USB port is passed through current limiting resistor R2 and transistor Q1. The base of transistor Q1 is grounded via R1 which provides a constant bias voltage for Q1 together with D2.The diode D1 prevents the reverse flow of current from battery.C1 is used as a noise filter. Two white LED’s are used here for the lamp, you can also use a 2 V torch bulb instead of LED’s. LED D3 indicates connection with USB port. More >

Fire alarm circuit

Many fire alarm circuits are presented here, but this time a new circuit using a thermistor and a timer to do the trick. The circuit is as simple and straight forward so that , it can be easily implemented. The thermistor offers a low resistance at high temperature and high resistance at low temperature. This phenomenon is employed here for sensing the fire. More >

simple code lock

The circuit described here is of an electronic combination lock for daily use. It responds only to the right sequence of four digits that are keyed in remotely. If a wrong key is touched, it resets the lock. More >

Multipurpose Circuit for telephone

This add-on device for telephones can be connected in parallel to the telephone instrument. The circuit provides audio-visual indication of on-hook, off-hook, and ringing modes. It can also be used to connect the telephone to a CID (caller identification device) through a relay and also to indicate tapping or misuse of telephone lines by sounding a buzzer. More >

Mains Powered White LED Lamp

Did it ever occur to you that an array of white LEDs can be used as a small lamp for the living room? If not, read on. LED lamps are available ready-made, look exactly the same as standard halogen lamps and can be fitted in a standard 230-V light fitting. We opened one, and as expected, a capacitor has been used to drop the voltage from 230 V to the voltage suitable for the LEDs. This method is cheaper and smaller compared to using a transformer. The lamp uses only 1 watt and therefore also gives off less light than, say, a 20 W halogen lamp. More >

Sine Wave Generator with 1KHz Frequency

This simple circuit has been designed to generate sine waves with a frequency of 1 KHz while featuring low distortion and low output impedance until 1 V RMS as it obtains power from batteries. More >

Electronically Lock for door by keybad

The circuit was constructed to provide a simple electronic lock system based on a single integrated circuit and will require a code of seven digits. More >

Automatic speed-controller for fans and coolers

During summer nights, the temperature is initially quite high. As time passes, the temperature starts dropping. Also, after a person falls asleep, the metabolic rate of one’s body decreases. Thus, initially the fan/cooler needs to be run at full speed. As time passes, one has to get up again and again to adjust the speed of the fan or the cooler. More >

Voice Bell

This circuit consists of two parts as shown in the figure. The upper circuit should be assembled in a box along with regulated 9V power supply (not shown in figure), while lower circuit may be assembled on a small general purpose PCB and fixed inside the doorbell switch enclosure. Connect points A and B of one module to the similar points of the other, using a simple 2-core electric cable. The polarity need not be adhered to, because the bridge rectifier used inside the switch circuit automatically ensures proper polarity. More >

Police Car Lights with LEDs

This circuit is used to simulate the police car lights by alternating flashing strobes seen on British police cars. The IC1a forms a square wave oscillator having adjustable frequency with VR1 to give the best effect. More >

LC meter, Coil Capacitor meter

This LC meter circuit can measure coils and capacitors. When Lx or Cx is connected in the circuit the oscillator frequency will decrease and this decrease is measured by a frequency-voltage converter build with T3 and T4. To adjust this lc meter circuit with P1 and P2. LC meter precision is 3%. More >

Fridge door Alarm

This fridge door alarm is using a 3V battery supply should be placed (in a small box) in the fridge near the lamp or close to the opening. With the door closed the photo resistor R2 presents a high resistance (>200K) thus clamping IC1 by holding C1 fully charged across R1 and D1. More >

Toggle ON / OFF Switch

This project describes how to build a “soft touch” switch. By “soft touch” we mean that you have to push once to set device ON and push again to set device OFF. This kind of switch works by latching a relay to ON state with push of a button and with another push latch is released. It is working like flip-flop states. In that way you can control power to a device using one push button. More >

power supply failure alarm

Most of the power-supply failure indicator circuits need a separate power-supply for themselves. But the alarm circuit presented here needs no additional supply source. It employs an electrolytic capacitor to store adequate charge, to feed power to the alarm circuit which sounds an alarm for a reasonable duration when the mains supply fails. More >

Mobile bug

This handy, pocket-size mobile transmission detector can sense the presence of an activated mobile phone from a distance of oneand- a-half metres. So it can be used to prevent use of mobile phones in examination halls, confidential rooms, etc. It is also useful for detecting the use of mobile phone for spying and unauthorised video transmission. More >

FM Telephone Bug

Here is a simple transmitter that when connected to a phone line, will transmit anything on that line (execpt the dial tone) to any FM radio. The frequency can be tuned from 88 to about 94Mhz and the range is about 200 feet. It is extremely easy to build and is therefore a good, useful beginner project. More >

PC Temperature Controller

Here is a simple temperature controller that turns your personnel computer (PC) off when the temperature of the PC increases beyond the optimal temperature value. Some of the larger integrated circuits become quite hot and if the temperature inside the PC becomes too high, these devices may not be able to dissipate heat fast enough. This, in turn, could lead to failure of devices and eventually of the PC. More >

Infra Red Wireless Door Monitor

This door monitor project uses an infrared beam to monitor door & passageways or any other area. When the beam is broken a relay is tripped which can be used to sound a bell or alarm. Suitable for detecting customers entering a shop, cars coming up a driveway, etc. The IR beam is very strong. Distances over 25 feet can be monitored. A 12VDC supply is required to power the circuit. A 12V wall adaptor is fine. Provision has been made so that only one power supply needs to be used to power both units. The relay is rated to switch mains voltages. More >
